For security reasons, customs in the US, Canada, Mexico, China and Japan demand to know the ships manifest, including all commodities, 24 hours prior to vessel departure from the port of Loading. This is referred to as the Automated Manifest System (AMS).This pertains both to cargo being imported as well as cargo routed through or transhipped via these countries.
